West African States (CFA) banknotes

The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) issues the West African franc (CFA) banknotes used in several West African countries. These notes are popular with banknote collectors. The currency is accepted by most establishments throughout the West African region. The new CFA notes come in denominations of 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 francs.

The West African franc (CFA) was introduced in 1948. It was originally pegged to the French franc, but has been pegged to the euro since 1999. This currency is used in Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. Banknotes are issued by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), based in Dakar, Senegal.

The individual countries distinguish their banknotes by the letter T - Togo, K - Senegal....

The first two digits in the banknote number indicate the year. Thus, 135682254 - banknote from 2013.
